Meet Zeazoo: Handmade Barefoot Shoes from Bulgaria
From the outset, the focus was not on creating a trend, but on responding to a gap they could clearly see. Shoes existed in abundance, but few were made with foot anatomy, movement and long-term comfort as the starting point. Zeazoo grew from that observation.
A Family Business Built on Heritage
Shoemaking has long been part of the family’s heritage. Their grandfather worked as a master shoemaker, continuing a line of craftsmanship that stretches back generations. That practical knowledge shaped the way Zeazoo approached footwear from the very beginning.
As the founders encountered barefoot principles, they recognised something familiar in them. The emphasis on wide toe boxes, flexible soles and natural movement echoed what traditional shoemaking had once prioritised, before fashion silhouettes narrowed and structured shoes became the norm.
At the time, barefoot footwear for anything beyond early childhood was still relatively uncommon. Zeazoo became part of a small group of brands exploring what minimalist, foot-shaped shoes could look like for older children, teenagers and adults. Rather than moving away from these early ideas as the market grew, the brand has stayed closely aligned to them.
Today, every pair of Zeazoo shoes is still handmade in Bulgaria, using the same principles that defined the brand in its early years.
Zeazoo at Happy Little Soles
Zeazoo produces barefoot shoes for children and adults, designed for everyday wear across changing seasons. We hold a healthy stock of children's barefoot footwear for all seasons at Happy Little Soles along with a variety of summer sandals for adults, including vegan options, and of course Zeazoo's ever popular sheepskin boots and slippers.
The construction begins with a wide toe box, allowing natural toe alignment and movement. Soles are flat, thin and flexible, encouraging ground feedback and reducing interference with how the foot moves. Shoes are kept deliberately lightweight, something that is immediately noticeable when handled.
Materials are chosen with similar care. Zeazoo uses natural leather, favouring vegetable-tanned finishes and chrome-free linings where possible. Processing methods aim to minimise chemical use, with an emphasis on durability and responsibility rather than speed or trend-led production.
Alongside the footwear itself, Zeazoo runs the Seeing Feet initiative, which promotes barefoot walking for visually impaired children. Selected styles contribute directly to this programme, reflecting an interest in how sensory feedback supports confidence and orientation.
For All Year Round
Made from natural leather with a chrome-free lining, the Husky Mini is built on Zeazoo’s GroundSense sole, a mere 3mm thick. Zero-drop and highly flexible, it follows the natural shape of the foot while offering reliable grip. The toe box is wide and well-proportioned, and a Velcro fastening supports ease of wear. A removable insole allows for small adjustments as needed.
Colour plays an important role across the Husky range. Options include aquamarine with fine star details, blue and pink nappa, rich red nubuck and black suede with playful accents. These combinations bring a sense of character to the shoe and give your little ones a say in how they express themselves.
For Spring and Summer
Handmade from natural calf leather, Zeazoo's Marlin sandal sits on a 4mm Vibram Superflex sole that is thin, responsive and elastic underfoot. The structure allows natural movement while providing dependable traction across varied surfaces. Marlin is one of the lightest sandals we hold here, which makes them great for sensory sensitive kids.
The front of the sandal is shaped to allow toes to spread comfortably, and the overall design avoids unnecessary stiffness. Colour options range from understated shades to brighter combinations, with leather quality remaining consistent across the range.
Goby follows the same principles as the Marlin, with a wide, foot‑shaped front, a thin flexible sole and a notably lightweight feel. Designed for active summer days, it supports natural movement while maintaining the simplicity that makes barefoot sandals easy to wear and easy to live in.
The Goby offers a similar barefoot experience to the Marlin, with small adjustments in shape and fastening to suit younger feet, making it a familiar choice for those already comfortable with Zeazoo’s sandal styles.
For Adults
Handmade with the same focus on simplicity and foot shape, Zeazoo’s Symphony sandal is designed for adults who want a minimal summer sandal without unnecessary structure. The sole remains thin and flexible underfoot, allowing natural movement and clear ground feedback while still offering reliable grip for everyday wear.
The front of the sandal is shaped to give toes space to spread and settle naturally, and the upper is kept soft and unobtrusive against the foot. Symphony is available in both leather and vegan options, with the vegan version offering the same flexibility and barefoot feel without the use of animal materials. Across the range, the design remains consistent: light, unfussy, and practical.
Who Zeazoo Tends to Suit
Zeazoo footwear suits those looking for a genuinely minimal barefoot shoe, without added structure or artificial shaping. The design remains straightforward throughout the range, with little variation in philosophy between styles.
Fits tend to suit medium to wide feet. Zeazoo recommends allowing an additional 5 to 10mm beyond measured foot length, and individual size charts are worth consulting, as proportions can vary between models.
Our team is always happy to help with sizing, you can find lots of help and FAQ at The Advice Hub, and free returns are available if, for any reason, something isn't quite right.
Why We Choose to Stock Zeazoo
Zeazoo’s approach to barefoot footwear is consistent and long established. The shoes are handmade in Bulgaria, using natural materials chosen for how they behave against the foot rather than for visual impact alone.
The colour range adds character without compromising function, and the Seeing Feet initiative reflects a wider interest in how footwear interacts with sensory experience.
In Summary
Zeazoo brings together traditional shoemaking, early barefoot thinking and a clear sense of restraint. The result is footwear that feels considered, practical and quietly distinctive, shaped by years of doing the same thing carefully rather than chasing novelty.
