It's great to welcome Mukishoes to Happy Little Soles. This Portuguese brand has been on many barefoot shoe lovers' wishlists. Our first edit is a small selection of their new barefoot styles for adults.
Origins
Mukishoes is a relatively new brand with a small, friendly team, led by Madlen and Marta, who founded the company and design the footwear. They launched Mukishoes via a crowdfunding campaign in early 2019, then opened their own online shop later that year to sell directly to customers worldwide.
As the brand has grown, so has the team. What began as a small operation is now supported by a wider group across design, production and distribution.
The Mukishoes Design
All Mukishoes follow the core barefoot design principles, with thin, flexible soles, a wide toe box, and a zero drop construction. Together, these elements allow the foot to move more naturally without restriction. The result is a lightweight shoe designed for everyday wear, produced from a range of natural and low impact materials, including organic cotton, hemp, wool, cork, and leather.
Where possible, these are sourced within Europe, with a preference for suppliers using organic or regenerative methods, and production remains in Portugal, where Mukishoes began.
Mukishoes At Happy Little Soles
Our current Mukishoes range is small and focused on adult barefoot shoes, which reflects the early stage of the brand within our collection. We have chosen a limited selection of barefoot sandals and light summer trainers to start with, with the intention of expanding if they prove popular, so please get in touch if you'd like to see more of this brand.

Soca Clog
A soft suede clog with a grounded, easy profile. The shape is open and relaxed, with enough structure to wear out, but the feel is super cool and laid back. Works well with loose denim, linen or simple everyday layers.
Ericeira Sandals
A minimal sandal with a strong visual edge. The leopard print sole of the Black Leo brings a punchy contrast to this simple black sandal, making it a great option when you want something understated but not plain.
Nazaré Sandals
A classic everyday sandal in a clean finish. The design is simple and functional, with a low profile that sits close to the foot. Easy to style for your relaxed wardrobe throughout summer. Choose to go sophisticated in black leather or casual in brown suede.
Lyra is a minimal, low-profile sneaker that is perfect for warmer weather. Produced from sustainably sourced materials, Lyra is light, breathable, and has a minimal sole for great ground feel. Whether you go for gentle colourways or bold prints, the clean lines and minimal finish give Lyra a really modern look.
UNA
A wider fitting option than Lyra, UNA is a fresh, low-profile trainer that works well for sports and everyday wear. This shoe is constructed from sustainably produced leather and suede, and has a natural rubber sole unit, which is zero drop, a mere 3.5mm thick, and very flexible.
The Mukishoes Fit
Generally, their natural foot-shaped design allows good toe splay for medium-width feet. The construction is soft and unstructured, and the sandals have great adjustability. Depending on the style, they are most comfortable for feet with a lower to medium volume.
Our range of Mukishoes comes in adult EU sizing and generally runs true to size. A shoe like Lyra will give a closer fit than their sandals or clogs, in which case sizing up slightly might give you a more comfortable fit.

Why We Love Mukishoes
Mukishoes are a natural fit for us. The designs are simple and easy to wear, and have a fashion-forward edge that looks really fresh. For a young brand, their approach to materials and production is admirable, keeping things local to their origins, and working with natural fibres where possible.
It's early days for Mukishoes at HLS, but it's a brand we are genuinely pleased to have on board.
